BIOGRAPHY

A lifelong storyteller, Thomas Thoreau is a composer infatuated with the creation and curation of experience through moods both subtle and striking.

Inspiration strikes in many forms, from many places.

The dynamic range of the classical Western orchestra to whisper gentle nuances and boldly proclaim simple truths led him to pursue his Bachelor of Music in Classical Composition at Loyola University New Orleans.

The capacity of cinema to speak to the human condition, in ways both abstract and concrete, drove him to obtain his Master of Music in Film Music Composition at the Seattle Film Institute.

The narrative spark of European/American folk music traditions continuously ignites his work with period ensembles on the Renaissance lute, his study of historical folk ballads, and his creation of orchestral folk music.

In all he does, Thomas Thoreau seeks to create worlds where form and function, style and substance, can all meet as equals.
